Delighted to report that our graphic novel, ILLEGAL, was featured in an exhibition in Italy recently. ILLEGAL is not published until early October, but visitors to ‘Arrivano dal Mare’ got a sneak preview in an exhibition featuring comics and illustrations connected with the sea.
A selection of Giovanni’s work on ILLEGAL was displayed along with Liberté, by Alessandro Di Virgilio & Michela Cacciatore (published by Aurea Editoriale), Sandokan (published by Star Comics) and the works of Vanessa Cardinali. Part of the exhibition was dedicated to artwork remembering those who lost their lives in the tragic event of October, 13th 2013 where 368 migrants died near Lampedusa.
The exhibition took place at Castel Sismondo, Rimini between 17th – 23rd July and was conceived by Davide Barzi and cured by Matteo Laudiano.
The exhibition, ‘Arrivano dal Mare’ Monies raised from catalogue sales were donated to a charity helping migrants who landed in Sicily in recent years.
Thanks to Matteo Laudiano for the excellent photographs and to Giovanni for making this happen. Special mention to Paolo Guiducci, director of Carton Club and to the Remini Comix Festival. It was an honour to be included in the exhibition.
ILLEGAL, the graphic novel, is written by Eoin Colfer & Andrew Donkin with art by Giovanni Rigano and is published in the UK by Hodder in early October 2017.
