Delighted to announce that our Bunnicula graphic novel has been shortlisted for a KSC Book Award at King’s School, Chester.
Many thanks to the school and @KSCLibrarian on the Twitter. Many congratulations to all the other fab books on the impressive shortlist.
Bunnicula the graphic novel was adapted by yours truly from the classic American children’s book by best selling New York based author James Howe and late wife Deborah Howe. The artwork for the full colour, all singing, all dancing graphic novel adaptation is by Screaming’ Stephen Gilpin who does a fantastic job.
Bunnicula was first published in 1979 and quickly became a children’s evergreen favourite in the States. The story tells how the Monroe family find an abandoned bunny rabbit at a local cinema screening of Dracula and bring the little fur ball home. Little do the Monroe family know that they are about to experience a series of spine-tingling, blood-sucking attacks on the vegetables of the house! The real stars of the book are the dog and cat team of Harold, the sensible dog, and Chester, the highly imaginative and very excitable cat.
It was great fun to write and to get to know and to work with #GeniusJim aka James Howe on the adaptation. It’s been so successful in the States that we are all hard at work on the second book in the series.
Well done team! Just in time for Halloween!
