Our GLOBAL makes the 2024 Wainwright Prize Shortlist!

Eoin, Gio, and myself are delighted and honoured to learn that our new graphic novel, GLOBAL, about the dangers of climate change and its effects on young people around the planet has today been shortlisted for the prestigious Wainwright Prize 2024 for Children’s Writing about nature or conservation. (We were announced as being on the longest last month, but the shortlist is that list cut down further to even fewer books.)

We couldn’t be more thrilled to be included on such an amazing shortlist. Congratulations to all our fellow writers and artists listed alongside us.

As far as we know, GLOBAL is the first graphic novel to ever be long listed or shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize.

“The prize was created in Alfred Wainwright’s name to showcase the growing genre of nature-writing in publishing and to celebrate and encourage exploration of the outdoors to all readers. It was initially conceived in 2013 by Frances Lincoln, publishers of Alfred Wainwright’s famous walking guides. It has been administered ever since by the independent Literary Marketing Agency; Agile.

The Wainwright Prize is approaching its second decade amidst ongoing conversations around our environment – reflected in the continued growth in the publishing of nature and conservation writing – The Wainwright Prize’s role in amplifying these conversations is as urgent as ever. With a new government now in office, The Wainwright Prize hopes to provide a platform to bring many of the issues covered in the longlist to the forefront of political discourse.”

The award is announced at a ceremony on 11th September at Camley Street Natural Park near King’s Cross in London and apparently we’re invited so exciting times.

Thanks to all those who organise and judge the award.
